GRI Alps Field Conference

The Geoscience Research Institute (GRI) regularly conducts field conferences to familiarize church leaders, teachers, pastors and others with scientific evidence relating to the origin of everything from life to the universe itself. This 7:30 film is about the 2017 GRI Alps Field School, which began and ended in Milan, Italy, and features Ted N. C. Wilson, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, as well as several presidents of the various word divisions of the church. In this GRI Field Conference, the group traveled in a loop from Milan north through the Italian, French and Swiss Alps, then south back to Milan where the conference ended. Along the way, geological evidence of a massive collision that occurred in the past between Europe and Africa was examined. This collision produced the European Alps. The ultimate purpose was to ensure that leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church have a knowledgeable understanding of the way in which science informs our understanding of the past and why there is some tension between the biblical record of history and current scientific understandings, particularly those based on a materialistic view of reality. This kind of continuing education is essential for church leaders who will be making decisions about the pastoral and educational activities of the Church. In addition, it provides an opportunity for informal interaction between the team of individuals who must together work to advance the cause of Christ on Earth. Ultimately, it is hoped that this GRI Field Conference will lead to a church more united and effective in service to the world and its Creator.
